What to Expect

Our medical assisting program gives you the chance to learn about the medical field while learning how to get established in a rewarding professional career. The good news? You don’t have to spend years in school.

Flexible Schedule

If you’re already working, it’s not a problem! First Institute has both daytime and nighttime medical assisting training programs available. Daytime class hours are two days a week (Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs) from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM and the evening schedule is four nights a week (Mon through Thurs) from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

Becoming a qualified medical assistant takes hard work, but we make it easier to get closer to your dreams of helping others. Available at both our Crystal Lake and Libertyville campuses, we provide the hands-on training, practical experience and industry support it takes to pursue a rewarding healthcare career.

Our medical assisting program includes a 160-hour (10-week) externship in a medical office setting, which allows you to work with real patients and healthcare providers in the local community.

Additionally, our instructors are experienced medical professionals who know what employers are seeking in candidates. This means you’ll gain the administrative and clinical skills needed to move smoothly into a medical assisting position after graduation.

Medical Assistant Certifications

This program prepares students to pursue all three of the following healthcare certification exams to further set you apart from the crowd and increase your potential employment opportunities:

  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)
  • Certified Electrocardiogram Technician (CET)

Industry certifications are offered through the National Healthcareer Association. Graduates are also eligible to sit for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification through the American Medical Technologist (AMT).
