The Four Most Vital Questions to Ask When Choosing a Dental Assistant Program
It’s smart to seek information and ask questions before making a big life decision, such as choosing a school. We want you to be as informed as possible, which is why we’ve compiled a few questions about First Institute’s Dental Assisting program we feel are important to address before you decide to enroll and begin training for a new career.
Let’s get to it!
Is this a certificate, diploma, or degree program?
Both programs currently available through First Institute – Dental Assistant and Medical Assistant – award diplomas to graduates. Accredited by ACCET, our quality health care programs can help prepare you for the entry-level dental assistant position you need. We have the approval to operate by the Illinois Board of Higher Education.
Is financial aid available?
At First Institute, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to further their education, which is why we are committed to making financial aid available to those who qualify. Our programs all qualify for federal loans and grants, and we work hard to secure financial assistance if you meet the requirements.
Along with grants and loans, scholarships are also available to both current students and high school graduates who enroll at First Institute.
What types of classes will I be taking?
The only courses we offer are those that will properly prepare you for a Dental Assisting career. We know that you don’t have time to waste taking classes that won’t benefit you on the job, so we build our curriculum around the knowledge and skills you’ll actually need when you enter the dental assisting field.
At First Institute, the Dental Assisting courses include:
- Administrative Procedures, Oral Health, Endodontics
- Anatomy & Morphology
- Dental Science
- Operative & Chair Side Assisting
- Dental Radiology
- Laboratory Procedures
Does the Dental Assistant program offer any type of clinical training?
Absolutely it does. After completing the program’s classroom portion, students must enroll in a Clinical Lab course, in which you’ll be assigned to an off-site dental clinic and gather experience that will prepare you for the final leg of the program.
All First Institute Dental Assistant students will also complete a mandatory externship, which has proved to be extremely effective in helping them complete real, hands-on tasks. You will use the skills and knowledge you acquire throughout the program’s courses to train for a future position in the dental field.
